Because you all love me and deeply want to know what on Earth I'm doing with my life/want to hire me, I'll put you out of your misery and let you know that I've just accepted an offer from Red Hat to save the universe work on kernel and userspace power management. With luck, it'll go some way to making up for the ridiculous amount of flying I'm still due to do this year.

Every Matthew Garrett photo is a potential GQ cover.

Surely this is already in angryfacts somewhere.

Even if you like Ubuntu better than Red Hat, any improvements Garrett makes to Red Hat will benefit Debian systems as well. That's the beauty of open source; the good stuff floats back upstream. I assume that he'll still be on the Technical Board, and still be with the Ubuntu community, so why is it a problem if he works with Red Hat? Being paid to work on Open Source software which will directly benefit your current project != selling out.

Does this mean you'll be moving somewhere silly like Boston instead of California? (Not that California isn't silly, but at least it is warm and silly.)

I'm still hoping to get out to the west coast, though this may end up involving a certain degree of negotiation.
