MPAA don't fuck with my shit.

(And yes, I did attempt to contact them by email and phone before resorting to the more obnoxious behaviour of contacting the ISP. No reply to my email, and the series of friendly receptionists I got bounced between had no idea who would be responsible but promised me someone would call back. No joy there, either.)

Do you realize that this post contains no context whatsoever for anyone who isn't already familiar with..... whatever it is you're talking about? I found this because it was on Planet Ubuntu's RSS feed. I would like to know what you're talking about. I'll watch the comments on this page.

Google did me what the product in question was, but I'm not sure why it was taken down.

It was a modified copy of xubutnu distributed without sources. The Washington Post had a story.

The University Toolkit was an Ubuntu derivative designed to be used by universities to monitor their networks for any filesharing activity. It was provided without either an offer to provide the source or the source itself, and therefore breached the terms of the GPL.

you might want to be a little more clear.

this post made me think the monitoring software was a modification of a specific Ubuntu network monitoring utility. rather, the toolkit appears to be a setup of stock monitoring software configured & running on an Ubuntu derived OS.

it is also quite possible i am the only one who misunderstood.

Err, more precisely, FIRST PAGE!!! and not first comment, because clearly they're not the first. But anyway, if you follow LJ news ever, you probably get what I'm poking at.

If you do that, you see no errors, no changes get made, and you'll spend a while scratching your head wondering what happened.
